WEDNESDAY MARCH 7, 2012
6:30 PM

Pat and I went to Memphis to the doctor today.  Pat had to get a shot for her hip.  She had one in the other hip about two weeks ago.  The shot worked and the doctor thinks these shots will solve her problem.  The first one has worked well.

We had lunch in Germantown with a lot of old people.  We ate at a cafeteria.  A larger of the customers were older people.  The food was good and they had an excellent selection.

After the doctor appointment we went to the funeral home and visited with Amy and her coworkers.  They have been very busy for the last several days, but we caught them at  a break between jobs.  Pat carried them some brownies that she baked this morning.

When we got home the man working on our front porch has been here and removed the remaining brick.  He has to remove the floor and then the concrete contractor will come an pour a new porch floor.

We are going to install new floor covering in the house.  We plan to have wood floors in all of the house except the bathrooms and the kitchen and family room.  The company will be here tomorrow to measure the house.  He called while we were in Memphis, so he said that he would come tomorrow for the measurements.

TUESDAY MARCH 6, 2012
5:45 PM

I have not written in several weeks.  Everything is fine, I have just not taken the time to write.

On cold days I just stayed it the house and enjoyed doing nothing.  On the nice days I have been working in the yard.  The biggest project has been smoothing out the dirt where I had a new field line put in last year.  We have had a lot of rain, so it took several weeks to complete the job.

I had to spend some time taking care of, with the help of my brothers, taking care of the business that must be done when a family member dies.  I think everything is complete.  We are waiting on a monument for my father.  The company forgot to put some information the monument.  They should complete the work this week and set the monument.  We have already paid for the monument, so we have closed mother's accounts and settled the estate.

The contractor has poured the slab for my new garage.  Because of the rain and the temperature they did it as do a good job with the slab.  I have ordered the trusses and plan to purchase the material to frame the building this week.   I plan to get the building framed and a roof on and the take my time completing the job.  I look forward to doing the work and then getting to use the garage.

I have hired a man to repair my front porch.  Part of the process is take the brick off of about 20 feet of the front house wall.  I have a man doing that when he has the time.  He has completed about one third of the removal of the brick.  He was careful taking off the brick, so I spent most of the day cleaning the brick.  I plan to reuse the brick when we remove the floor and replace it.

I talked with three of my good buddies from Wynne today.  It was good to visit with them on the phone.

Pat and I will go to Memphis tomorrow.  She has to get a shot from a doctor.  We will go by and see Amy, if she can take a short break.  It all depends on the work going on when we get to go to the funeral home.

She came to Iuka two weeks ago and spent the weekend.   She had a good time and so did Pat and I.

I still go to the coffee shop and keep up on all of the information about Iuka and Tishomingo county.

Pat and I are enjoying living in Iuka and not having to go to work everyday.  We have never regretted retiring and moving to Iuka, but we both miss Wynne and our many friends.

SUNDAY JANUARY 29, 2012
5:45 PM

I have been sick this week.  I have had a very bad cold.  I have been taking over the counter drugs and staying in the house.  I have spent most of the time in bed since Tuesday evening.  I feel much better today.  I did not go to church this morning, but I plan to go tonight.

Pat and I did join my Iuka family last night for supper at one of my brothers home.  We had a very good meal and enjoyed visiting with family.

FRIDAY JANUARY 20. 2011
3:15 PM

Mother went to be with the Lord today about 1:45 PM.  She was surrounded by her sons and sister when she passed away.

Thanks for all of your prayers during the last days of her life here on earth.   She went very easy no pain.
FRIDAY JANUARY 20, 2010
6:00 AM

Mother is not doing well.  In fact she is in the last stages of life.  Her body is shutting down.  The nurse has told us that it is a matter of a few days.  The nurses are keeping her comfortable.

Mother is ready to go be with the Lord.  She has told us several times over the past few months that she is ready to go.  One of the last things that she told the nurse, that could be understood, was that she was going to meet God.

Please keep mother and our family in your prayers as she and we go through this difficult time.

TUESDAY JANUARY 17, 2012
8:42 PM

It has been cold and raining the last several days in Iuka.  The forecast for the next several days is more of the same.

Amy made a surprise visit last Thursday night.  She was off last Thursday and Friday.  Thursday afternoon she and her boyfriend were ridding around and she mentioned the she would like to see her mother and daddy.  Before she realized what was going on they were on their way  to Iuka.  It was a surprise.  We had a very good visit before they had to return.

Pat and I went to the library for a meeting today and a concert with some old friends from Iuka.  The event was well attended and I met several people that I have not seen since returning to Iuka.  I also saw several that I have met since we moved back.

I talked to a couple from Iuka that I have probably not seen in well over forty years.  The lady had gone to a business school in Memphis after high school.  When she learned that we had lived in Wynne she told us that she had gone to business school with some women from Wynne.  She could remember the first name of one of the women, but could not remember her last name.  When she told me her first name I told her that I knew that woman. Her name is not a very common name.  Based on the age of the women I told her that it had to be the woman I knew in Wynne.   When I got home I called the lady in Wynne and she told me that she remembered the lady from Iuka and that there were four women from Wynne going to the school in Memphis at that time.   We had a good visit talking on the phone.  I then called my friend in Iuka  and told her the phone number of the lady in Wynne.  She said that she would give her a call.  When I was talking to the lady in Wynne, she told me that several times over the years she and the other ladies from Wynne had talked about my friend from Iuka.  I hope that they had a good visit on the phone.  I will check with my friend when I see her again.

Since I have moved back to Iuka I have met two men who had worked for the owner of the shoe factory in Wynne.  They had not worked in Wynne, but they knew that the company had a factory in Wynne.  Small world.

Mother in not doing well.  She has had  three bad days.  In fact the last two she has had an nurse in the room all of the time.   Mother's body is wearing out.

TUESDAY JANUARY 3, 2012
3:15 PM

I have stayed in the house all day today.  It is cold in Iuka today.  It is now 36 degrees and that is the high so far today.  I did go to the coffee shop this morning and caught up on the latest news.

Pat has been gone since early this morning.  She is in Memphis with my aunt.   She had a doctors appointment this morning.

Yesterday Pat's brothers, Mike and Steve came over.  Mike's wife and daughter and grandson also came.  Steve and his girlfriend came.  We had a lunch and visited for a while.  Tommy came over just before they left.  He stayed and we watched football games until about midnight.  I watched part of several games yesterday.  At one time there were four games going on at the same time.  All of the games were very good and no blowouts among the games.

I have to go to the doctor tomorrow.  Nothing is wrong, it is time for my yearly checkup and get a new prescription for my drugs for the next year.  I will have to skip my honey bun and coffee until they draw blood.  They will draw blood about 8:30 AM.  I can then have some coffee and my honey bun.  My appointment to see the doctor is not until 9:45 AM.  This will be my second time to see this doctor.  I was impressed with him the first time I had an appointment with him.
