WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 7, 2012
9:00 PM

I went back to the doctor in Tupelo today.  Everything is fine.  The doctor is going to keep a check on my problem for the next several months.  I will go back to see him in four months then six months and then a year.  He thinks everything is OK and I have nothing to be concerned about.  It was very good news.

Since my test last week I have had some pain some fever.  I have felt very very bad.  The doctor said that it had nothing to do with the problem he has been working with me for the past several weeks.  I have spent several days in the bed with fever and feeling very bad.  Today was a good day.  I only had a small fever late this afternoon and have had no pain.  He told me to take Advil four times a day for a few days and everything should be fine.  On Tuesday I told Pat that I was tired of feeling bad.  I think everything is going to be fine in a day or two.

Amy came home on Saturday morning.  Tommy and I went to the Mississippi State game on Saturday.  As always happens when she comes home, she got a call early Sunday morning to return to Memphis for a job.  We hated to see her go so soon, but we are glad she is able to make some extra money.

She is home now for two days.  She is off this week Thursday and Friday.  If it goes as it has over the past several visits she will get a call and have to return early.  But we are glad that we get to spend some time with her.

Pat and I plan to meet some old friends of ours in Tupelo on Saturday afternoon and have supper together and have a good long visit.  We look forward to seeing them again.

It has turned cool here again.  The highs this week are in the low to middle fifties.  It is November.

OCTOBER 31, 2012
9:00 PM

We did not have any trick or treats tonight.  Last year we had one.  We used to have several hundred in Wynne until we started leaving town on Halloween night.  Several years we had over 400 kids.

It has gotten cooler here.  We have had some frost for the past several mornings.  We have not had a killing frost yet,  the grass is still green.  I have picked up the leaves several times over the past few days.  It is easier to stay up with them falling rather than deal with all of them at one time.

On Monday I cut the new quarter round to go around the new kitchen cabinets.  I also stained it and put the finish on the quarter round.  On Tuesday morning I installed it around the new cabinets.

Yesterday I also built a patio.  Last week  Pat and I bought some concrete stones to build the patio  If is about seven feet by twelve feet.  It looks good.  We still plan to build a deck on the back of the house but that will be some time in the future.

Pat and I went to the tri-cities on Friday night.  Tommy's daughter was in a senor play at her school.  That was the first time I had been to a high school play in years.  We went over to Tommy's house on Saturday night for supper and watch the Miss State and Alabama football game.  We enjoyed the food, but the game was a bummer for State fans.

I will be going to the hospital in Tupelo tomorrow for another test.  I will go back to the doctor next week and he will discuss my options based on the results of the test.  I am not looking forward to the test, but I am ready to find out about my condition and how it will be treated or if no treatment is necessary at this time.

MONDAY OCTOBER 22, 2012
7:50 AM

Today is my birthday.  This is the first time I have not celebrated with my mother.  I was born on her birthday.  She died in January of this year.

Amy came to Iuka this weekend and as usual she had to leave early to do a job for one of the funeral homes she does contract work for.  It was good to have her visit for my birthday.

Pat and I met some old friends of ours for supper on Saturday night.    They live in Southhaven.  We me at a cafe about half way for both of us.  We had a good fish supper and had a long visit.  We plan to do it again next month.  We plan to meet in Tupelo.  I look forward to our meal and visit.

When Pat and I got home on Saturday night Amy had displayed on the carport the gift she and Pat had bought for my birthday.  It is a large metal Mississippi State sign.  I was surprised and pleased with the gift.  Pat also gave me a card that plays Who Let the Dawgs Out.  Cute--------

Pat and I are going to a funeral this morning.  A friend of ours passed away on Friday.  We know him from church and we are also members of the car club with him.  He was a retired school administrator.  He served the Iuka district and when he retired several years ago he went  to Hazen Arkansas and served for five years in administration.  He was a very good friend.

Pat and I will go to Memphis for an appointment with her heart doctor.  On Wednesday we go to Tupelo for an appointment I have with my doctor.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 13, 2012
3:30 PM

My medical problem was not taken care of on Friday.  I have to go to another doctor in Tupelo on Monday.

For the past several days I have been building a console for my old truck.  I finished the job this morning.  It really looks good with the bucket seats I installed a few weeks ago.

Today is the wedding day for Jenni and Billy.  The wedding will be today at 5:00 pm.  Amy is on here way home to attend the wedding.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 10, 2012
7:10 PM

It has been cool here for the last few days.  It is that time of year.

I have had two small  medical problems the last few days.  I have visited two doctors and had a CT scan and an MRI.  I made my second trip to the doctor in Tupelo today.  One of the problems has been taken care of.  I have an appointment with another doctor tomorrow.  I hope that my second problem will be resolved after that visit.

I have been working in the yard a little over the last few days.  I cut the grass today and used my bagger to remove the leaves.  The grass will not have to be cut many more times, but I will have to deal with the leaves for a long time.

Amy is still off work with her broken bone.  She went to the doctor on Monday of this week.  He told her she could go back to work next Monday.  She has enjoyed not having to go to work, but she also got bored some of the time.  Two of the embalmers who worked with Amy have left since she last worked.  She will have to get used to working with new people when she returns next Monday.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2012
9:00 AM

I have completed all of the painting on the cabinets in the kitchen, bathrooms, and the laundry room.  The company that built the new doors and base cabinets for the kitchen will be here this morning to install the new base cabinets and the new doors.  This is the next to last big project we plan to complete on our home.
We plan to build a deck on the back of the house with a french door from the dinning room and a single door from the master bedroom.  There is no rush on this project.  We would like to have it completed by early spring.

I have removed the bench seat from my old truck.  I replaced it with bucket seats.  I think that I will enjoy the bucket seats.  They came out of a Chevrolet pickup.

Amy is here for a few days.  She is still off work from her broken bone in her ankle.  Everything is going well, but she has another week before she can return to work.  She has missed work, but she has enjoyed her unexpected vacation.  Her doctor told her that it would swell for about six months and have some pain for about one year.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 2012
3:00 PM

My brother Tommy and I went to the Mississippi State Auburn game yesterday.  Mississippi State won 28 to 10.  Mississippi State played very good.  Auburn did not play very good.  We had a good time traveling to and from the game and enjoying the playing of the game.  The weather was great, it did rain for about 5 minutes of the game but it was very light.  We used our rain gear for only about five minutes.  If we had not used the gear we would not have gotten wet.

We have a new pastor at Iuka Baptist Church.  He is serving until we choose a full time pastor.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2012
4:45 PM

I spent the day from 7:30 this morning till 3:00 this afternoon working the car show for the car club I belong to here in Iuka.  We had a very good show.  We had 165 cars and trucks that were a part of the show.

Pat spent most of the day working at a booth for her garden club.  They served homemade ice cream, white beans and cornbread.  They sold out about 3:30 and closed up and came home.  They had a very good response to their offerings.

Amy is progressing well from the broken bone in her ankle.  She will be off work at least two more weeks.  She is not able to stand and do the work with her boot and pain.

THURSDAY AUGUST 30, 2012
5:45 AM

We have started the process of replacing and updating the cabinets.  We are going to have new base cabinets built and replace the doors on the wall cabinets.  The builder measured them yesterday.  Pat and I will go today and pick out the counter top and hardware.  This is the last big project for our home here in Iuka.  We knew we had several projects to complete when we decided to move.  It has been a little slow at times, but we are pleased with the results.

I will have to remove the old doors on the wall cabinets and paint them.  The builder will paint the base cabinets and install all of the doors.

Amy turned her ankle at work on Monday.  She broke a bone in her food when this happened.  She does not have a cast, they put her in a boot.  The pain has not been too bad, but the swelling is quite a bit.  She has not worked since the accident happened.

THURSDAY AUGUST 23, 2012
5:40 PM

My garage is now completely finished.  Mike and Steve (Pat's brothers) finished putting the trim on the shop last Saturday.  It has been a long process but I am glad that the project is complete.  I have been enjoying it for several months.  The trim just added to the looks of the garage and I will not have to paint any of the outside.  Everything exposed to the outside is covered with metal.

Last year I bought some headers for my old truck.  I had them put on this week.  My truck is a six cylinder and has one tail pipe.  The headers allow two tail pipes and give the truck a very unique sound.  I have wanted to have this done since I bought the truck, but it took a long time to find headers for an old truck and then it took me a while to find a garage that would do the job.  I am very pleased with the job the garage did on this old truck.

SUNDAY AUGUST 12, 2012

My brother, Tommy and I went to Gatlinburg TN on Thursday and came home on Saturday.  The reason for the trip was Tommy wanted to ride over the mountain.

He left the motel at 6:00 AM on Friday morning.  He rode up the mountain which is 15 miles all uphill.  It took him 4 and 1/2 hours.  He then rode down the mountain into North Carolina which was 20 miles.  The ride down the mountain took about one hour.  He was proud of that he was able to add that to his bucket list.  I followed him the last two and one half hours of his trip.

After his ride we drove around the area the rest of the day enjoying the area and then had an evening meal in a nearby town.

We drove home on Saturday in Tommy's Mustang with the top down.

A very interesting three days.  I am glad that I was a small part of Tommy's adventure.

TUESDAY AUGUST 7, 2012
3:15 PM

As usual I have been working in the yard.  I do a few items each day.

I plan to go to east Tennessee the last part of the week.  My brother who likes to ride a bike wants to ride over the mountains.  I will go with  him and pick him up after his ride.  I told him I would be glad to go with him, but that I was not going to ride a bike.  He said OK.

Pat's sister is coming this week to spend a few days.  She had planned to come on Saturday, but she had some car repairs that had to be completed before she made the trip.  The car is going to be ready today.  If they complete the job before early afternoon she plans to come today, if not she will be here tomorrow.

I have been going to the coffee shop.  I need to keep up on what is going on in Iuka.  It is like Wynne, you can get a lot of information, but sometimes you can not depend on the information.

TUESDAY JULY 31. 2012
4:30 PM

The driveway to the new garage now has white rock from the road to the garage.  The man completed the job last week.  I have finished the shutters.  They make the house look much better.  I also painted the front screen door.  It also looks very good.

This morning I went over in Tennessee and bought some bucket seats for my old truck.  I have been looking for some for some time.  I found the kind and color that I wanted, so I bought them.  I will put them in some time in the future, no rush.

Last night we had some rain and some very loud thunder and bright lightening.  The news said that there was some damage in the county.  I saw none around our home.

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

WEDNESDAY JULY 25, 2012
6:40 PM

Not much new here in Iuka.  I have been working a little in the yard everyday.  I have completed all of the clearing that I plan to complete on this property.  I have a little over one acre of our two acres cleared out.  I cut all of the vines and briers from the property and some of the small trees.  Very few of the small trees.  I can now keep it looking good with the mower and the weed eater.

Last week I had a load of white rock delivered and spread in front of my garage.  I have also ordered enough white rock to have a hard surface from the garage to the county road.  It will take about four loads of rock.  The man who does this for me thinks that he will do the job this week or next.

Yesterday and today I worked on the shutters for the house.  I have four of them painted.  I only like eight more.  It will take several days to complete the job.  I have to take them down, clean them, prime them,  and then put at least two coats of the final color.  I then have to install them.  I can do all of the painting it the garage where it is cool with the AC.

SUNDAY JULY 15, 2012
1:00 PM

One year ago was my last day as Mayor of the City of Wynne.  It does not seem like a year has past.  It has been a good year for me.  I miss not living in Wynne and not being Mayor, but it was a good decision and I have never questioned my decision.  I enjoyed serving as Mayor and the changes that took place while I served the citizens of Wynne.

We have had rain almost every day for the past week.  The grass is green again and everything look very good.  The temperature has dropped the past week and it has been very nice not having the 100 degree days.

Thursday, July 5, 2012

THURSDAY JULY 5, 2012
5:30 PM

It has been hot in Iuka for several days.  The yards are dead and the trees and flowers look very bad.

I have just about finished by garage.  I have completed the inside.  I like a few pieces of trim on the outside.  I can not do that without help.  Pat's brothers are going to help me finish the job when the weather gets a little cooler.

Amy had six days off starting last Saturday.  She came home on Saturday and stayed till yesterday afternoon.  She enjoyed being here and not having to go to work.  This is the first time she has had time off since she started work last May.  She plans to take some vacation time next week, but she is going to fill in for one of her friends so he can take a few days off.

Yesterday I cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill.  Most of Pat's family came out and ate.  We had a very good meal and enjoyed visiting with each other.

SAURDAY JUNE 30, 2012
3:00 PM

I have finished the inside of my garage.  I have the ceiling and walls completely installed.  I have installed the heater (I DO NOT NEED IT NOW---IT IS OVER 100 DEGREES NOW IN IUKA).  I now need to install some shelving for all of my stuff and arange the space so I can use the space that is not used for storage.  It was nice working in the shop this week with the AC.  Yesterday I had insulation blown in the attic.  I have carried on of my  XM radios to the shop.  It is good to have access to more than one station on the radio.  My radio in the shop will only pick up one station in the shop building.

I cleaned up and washed Pat's Explorer this morning.  It still looks good when it is clean.

Amy has a few days off (including some vacation) and she plans to come to Iuka today and can stay as much as six days.  That will be determined by calls she may get from the funeral homes she does trade work for.

Sunday, June 24, 2012

SUNDAY JUNE 24, 2010
2:00 PM

I have been working on my shop this week.   I have most of the walls insulated. I also have installed about one half of the paneling.  I have installed the ceiling, except for one piece.  I did not buy enough.  I have the insulation for the ceiling, but I will install that early one morning when it it a little cooler.  Right now it is 95 degrees in Iuka.

It is dry here.  It has been several days since we had any rain.  The yards are beginning to die.  Last week is the first week that I have not cut the yard since we move here.

Sunday, June 17, 2012

SUNDAY JUNE 17, 2012
1:00 PM

This has been another odd weekend.  Amy planned to come home yesterday and stay till this afternoon.  Early yesterday she got a call from the funeral home in Arkansas that she does contract work for.  They had a body for her to embalm.  She went to Arkansas and did the job and then came to Iuka.  She got here about 4:30 PM.  We were at Pat's brothers for a family outing with food.  We all had a good meal and good visit.

We came home about seven last night.  The plan was for Amy to take me and Pat out for dinner today.  About 10:00 PM she got a call from Arkansas, they had a job for her.  We discussed going last night, but the body had not been released in Memphis.  Amy decided, after talking with the Arkansas funeral home,  to go this morning and do the work.  That was OK with the funeral home.  We decided that we would all go out for breakfast and then Amy would go to Arkansas.  We went to breakfast and then we came home and Amy headed to Arkansas.

Amy  got about sixty miles form Iuka and she got a call from the funeral home.  The family had decided to cremate the body, so there was no need for Amy.  Amy came back to Iuka.  The plan now is for Amy to take us for lunch after all.

Yesterday I cut a hole in one of the walls for my new AC.  This afternoon Amy and Pat helped me install the AC in the wall.  It works super.

FRIDAY JUNE 15, 2012
9:00 PM

The workers were here and finished the job.  They completed the gas line installation and installed all of the lights.  I had them move the plug for the air conditioner.  I am going to put in the wall rather than the window.(long story)

This afternoon I went to Corinth and bought a new air conditioner for the shop.  I will install the AC then I will put in the insulation and wood on the walls and ceiling.  When I complete that I will try to get the shop arranged for use.  I can use it now, but most of the stuff is still in boxes.  I plan to discard some stuff to make room for the items that will be placed in the shop.

THURSDAY JUNE 14, 2012
8:45 PM

The electricians have been here the last two days.  Today they finished the wiring of the shop.  The only part they have to complete is the lights.  They have also been working on the gas line to the shop,  They have completed about 80% of that job.  The only reason that they did not finish was we needed more gas line than we thought we would need to complete the job.  They bought all of the pipe in Iuka, which would have been enough if the gas line was where I thought it was located. It was not located where I thought so they had not bought enough pipe and it was too late to go out of town to purchase more pipe when we discovered my mistake.

TUESDAY JUNE 12, 2012
6:00 PM

Last Thursday afternoon I went to the lake for the first time since we moved back to Iuka.  David, Tommy, and I rode around the lake for about two hours in David's boat.  We all had a good time and I enjoyed spending time with them.

Last Friday Pat and I went to Florence for supper.  We had a good meal and then we went to Sears and I bought a new tool box.  The one I have is fine, but I needed some more tool storage.

Last Saturday Pat and I went on the car club cruise to Selmer.  There was a car show.  We drove over and then looked at all of the cars.  After that we went to our neice's home.  She lives about ten miles from Selmer.  She and her husband have just moved to their home.

I have worked in the yard the last two days.  Yesterday the electrician came and worked about two hours on my garage.  They planned to come back today and have everything completed.  They never showed up.  They will be back sometime.

Pat went to Florence today for a Red Hat meeting and lunch.  She said that they had 15 women to go.  She enjoyed the outing.

Thursday, June 7, 2012

THURSDAY JUNE 7, 2012
12:50 PM

Yesterday I got the last three pieces on metal for the outside of my garage.  I installed it on the building yesterday afternoon.  I am glad that all of the metal is on the outside.  I still have a few pieces of trim to attach to the building, but I will have to have some help to install the trim.

Amy and Matt planned to come to Iuka yesterday for a visit.  About the time they were going to leave she got a call from the funeral home in Arkansas that she does some contract work for.  They went to Arkansas and she did the work and then they came to Iuka.  They got here about 9:00 PM.  This morning about 8:00 AM she got a call from the funeral home in Memphis that she does contract work for.  They had a job for her.

We ate breakfast and she took a bath and left about 10:00 AM for the job.  She hated that she did not get to spend much time at home, but she was glad that she was able to make the money for her work.

It seems like everytime she comes home she gets a call from one of the funeral homes that she does contract work for to do a job.  We told her that she should come home more often, she might get more work.  She enjoys coming home on her off days, but she needs the extra work that she is able to do for the two funeral homes.

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

TUESDAY JUNE 5 2012
8:15 PM

I worked inside my garage today.  Yesterday and today I build some shelves to put all of my stuff on.  I completed them this morning and arranged the stuff on them.  I will build a few more when I get the wiring, insulation and walls installed on the side that I plan to heat and cool.  I am very pleased with the shop so far.

When  I finished the work in the shop I did a little yard work.  We had some winds on Monday and I picked up sticks from the yard and burned them.  After that I cleared a small spot near the drive way.  I removed some vines and briers.  I then burned them.

I have to go to the surgeon in Tupelo on Thursday.  He though that I would be completely healed by now, but it  has not completely healed, so I will go back on Thursday.  It is almost healed, but not completely.  He told me that if it was healed I could call him and not come back, but it is not completely healed.

SATURDAY JUNE 2, 2012
4:20 PM

I went to the Baptist Brotherhood breakfast this morning at my church.  We had a good breakfast and a good devotional.  This is a monthly event at my church.  I always enjoy going and visiting with men of the church and hearing a good devotional.  I try to go every month.  I have missed a very few since we moved to Iuka.

After I got home I finished putting the siding on my garage.  I only like three pieces and that part of the work will be complete.  ( When I ordered I did not order enough)  I will order the three pieces next week and complete the job.  The outside is complete except for some trim that has to be installed.  I will have to have some help installing the trim.

When the electrical is complete I will start on the inside.  I need to install insulation and ceiling and walls.  I am not in a rush to complete that part of the job.  I also have to build some shelving and arrange all my stuff.

FRIDAY JUNE 1, 2012
7:40 PM

I did yard work today.  I did some mowing and weed eating.  It rained here for several hours last night.  It was cool today and there was no dust to deal with.

The electrician was supposed to be here today to wire my shop.  I have not heard from him today.  I have used him in the past and he always shows up when he is scheduled.  I feel sure that he will be here the first part of next week.  If he does not show up, I will give him a call.

MONDAY MAY 28, 2012
4:00 PM

It has been a quiet Memorial Day here at the Nichols home.  Early this morning Pat watered all of her new plants that she has planted since we moved to Iuka.  I helped and did a little yard work while she was watering.  After the watering, I decided to wash my old Ford truck.  About the time I was finishing the wash job my brother David and his wife stopped by for a visit.  They had not been to the house since we had the new floor installed.  They liked the new flooring.  We visited for a while and they checked out my garage.  They liked  the new garage.

I decided to take a shower after they left.  While I was taking a shower Pat's brother Mike stopped by for a visit.  He wanted to check out the work I had completed on the garage.  We visited for  a while and then he, Pat and I had cornbread, pinto beans and onions for lunch.  After lunch he returned home, he had to repair his lawn mower.

Last night Pat and I went to David's home for a hamburger cookout.  David's girls and Sandra's children were there.  We all had a good time and some good food.

Pat and I went to Florence on Friday night for supper.  I had heard about a cafe that I wanted to check out.  The food was very good and not very expensive.  We will go back to that cafe. (I heard about the cafe from some of my coffee shop buddies)

Aunt Ginny is not doing very well and it is two weeks before she goes to the doctor for her knee.  Last Friday she went to the local doctor and got some pain medicine, but on Saturday it made her sick.  She called me about 5 pm and asked me to come over.  Pat and I went over and stayed about two and one half hours.  She improved, but Pat and I came home and eat and Pat returned and spent the night.  She was a little better Sunday, but she is in a lot of  pain today.  She said she planned to go back to local doctor tomorrow and get some more pain medicine and hopefully get her appointment for the knee doctor move up.

FRIDAY MAY 25, 2012
11:45 AM

Amy came for a visit on Wednesday afternoon.  A few minutes after she got here she got a call from a funeral home she does some work for in Memphis.  They had a body for her to embalm.  I took a quick shower and we headed for Memphis.  She did her work and then we stopped for supper.  We got home about 11PM.  It was good to have time to spend with her, if it was driving to and from Memphis.

Yesterday an old friend called and asked me to join him for supper.  I told him that I would be happy to join him for supper.  (He travels in in job and he spends one night every three weeks in Iuka)  Pat, Amy and I joined him for supper.  We had a good meal and good conversation about what we have been doing since we last had a visit.  (He lives in northwest Mississippi)  After supper we came home and Amy returned home.  She will start her shift of working eight days before the next time off.

Pat is at the doctors office with Aunt Ginny.  She is having problems with one of her knees.

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

TUESDAY MAY 22, 2012
8:45 PM

Pat and I went to Memphis today.  She had to go to the doctor and get a shot.  After the doctor visit we had lunch at a Mexican cafe.  The food was good and we both enjoyed the change.  We have not had Mexican food in several weeks.

We left about 7:15 this morning and got back to Iuka a little after three in the afternoon.  I took a very short nap and then went to the barber shop for a hair cut.  I do not get as many hair cuts since I have retired.
Pat does not like it when my hair gets very long.

Friday, May 18, 2012

FRIDAY MAY 18, 2012
9:50 PM

Pat and I had some business to take care of this morning.  We completed our business about eleven o'clock and returned home.

I spent the rest of the day moving the last of items from our carport to the new garage.  When I had all of the items moved, I removed the last of the enclosure I put up last year.  We now have a complete carport to use.  We have been using part of it for several days.  I am glad to have complete use of the carport for parking cars and not enclosed storage.

We went to Corinth tonight and had supper.  After eating we did some shopping for a few items that we needed and are not available in Iuka.

Tomorrow I plan to take it easy.  I do plan to go to the coffee shop in the morning and catch up on the latest coffee shop reports.

Thursday, May 17, 2012

THURSDAY MAY  17, 2012
6:15 PM

I went to Tupelo today for a check up with my surgeon.  I got a very good report.  I have to go back in three weeks for a final check up.

I have been working on my shop for the last several days.  I have the metal on the front and I have built the wall dividing the shop in two parts.  I did this because I plan to have heat and cooling in only one part of the garage.  There is no need to spend the money to heat and cool the entire building.

I had a good surprise yesterday.  I was about to eat lunch when Jerry Brewster called me.  He told he that he was about ten minutes from Iuka.  I told him that I would meet him near the highway that goes on the edge of Iuka.  We met at Jack's.  We had lunch and a very good visit, then we came to my home and I gave Jerry a tour of my property here in Iuka.  It was good to visit with Jerry and catch up on activities in Wynne.  He was comming through Iuka from Fort Payne AL.  He was driving a new truck from the factory to Wynne  for use in the sanitation department.

I went to the car club meeting on Tuesday night this week.  Pat was able to go to this meeting for the first time.  She had other activities that have prevented her from attending in the past.  The club will have another trip early in June.  We will drive to Selmer and attend a car show and fistival.  Pat and I plan to make the trip.

TUESDAY MAY 8, 2012
7:20 PM

I spent most of the day working on my shop building.  I started placing the metal panels on the outside of the building.   I also did a little mowing and I also burned some scrap wood from the construction process of the shop.

Yesterday I finished weed eating the yard yesterday.  I had completed the back yard last week and I needed to complete the job.  It rained until after lunch.  The weather was excellent for working outside.

THURSDAY MAY 3. 2010
9:00 PM

I went to the surgeon in Tupelo.  He did not have to perform any more procedures.  He said that I was doing well.  I have to go back in two weeks.

I stopped on the way home and visited with a couple who used to live in Wynne.  They live a few miles south of Corinth.  They moved to Mississippi in October.  (The couple I visited are Brother T. G. Ramsey and his wife)  He is pastor of a church south of Corinth.

MONDAY APRIL 30 2012
8:45M

I made a quick trip to the metal company this morning.  They had to do a little adjusting to some of my metal and I ordered a few pieces to complete my building.  The metal will be ready tomorrow.  I plan to go pick it up.

I have moved most of the stuff from the carport to my new garage.  I have started taking down the walls.  I finished about 25% of it today.   I will complete the removal over the next few days.

I have to go back to the surgeon in Tupelo on Thursday.  Everything has been going well since my last visit and procedure.  He plans to complete the procedure on Thursday.

SUNDAY APRIL 29, 2012
12:45 PM

Steve, Mike and I completed the roof on my new shop yesterday, well almost, we need to add about thirty screws.  The roof is fine, but the additional screws will  make everything uniform.

I have ordered the roll up doors.  They will be installed in a few days.   I have started moving the stuff from the carport to the new garage.  I will be glad to have the use of our carport.

Mike and I went to north Alabama Friday night to a car race.  It was a dirt track race.  The World of Outlaws were there for a stop on their tour.  I enjoyed the race,  it was nothing like I have ever attended.  I can mark that off my bucket list.

Pat and I went to the tri-cities last night.  We attended a surprise birthday  party for my brothers wife.  Everyone enjoyed themselves and the guest was totally surprised.

I have to go back to the metal supplier to get a few more pieces of metal to complete the metal installation on my building.  I just need a few pieces of metal adjusted and a few pieces to finish the job.  The salesman and I did not communicate well on a couple of items.  They told me that they could make the adjustments and I need  to buy the extra  metal.   I am going to try to take care of that this week.

I have to go back to the surgeon this Thursday.  The first procedure is working fine,  I will be glad when he completes the procedure and I am completely healed.

THURSDAY APRIL 26, 2012
10:15 PM

The garage roof is complete except for the ridge cap.  That will not take very long, there are only four pieces of metal to put on the top of the roof.  I installed the window today.  I also ordered the roll up doors.  The company I bought them from do not have any in stock, so it will take a few days to get them.  The company will install them when they get them from their supplier.  Steve and I finished all of the walls today.  I will install the walk through doors in the next few days.  I have to install some trim around the building and them install the metal walls.  When the above task are complete, I will start on the inside.   The first task I plan to complete is the electrical wiring.  When that is complete I will put in insulation and install the heating and AC.  There is no rush to install the heating and AC.

Amy and Matt came yesterday and spent about half a day.  They were both off, so they came for a short visit.  It was good the see them, if only for a short time.

MONDAY APRIL 23, 2012
8:45 PM

The metal for my garage was delivered on Friday.  Mike and Steve (Pat's brothers)  are going to install the roof for me.  I can not get on top of the building.  They have installed half of the roof.  They need to install a few more screws the have the front half of the roof complete.

I bought the window and walk through doors this morning.  I will install them over the next few days.  Once the roof is complete, I plan to have the roll up doors installed.  I need to install some more OSB on the outside of the building.  I will then move in and complete the rest of the work over the next several months.  I will not be in a big rush once I get the roof and doors and window installed.  I will put the siding on then start working on the inside.  I am in no rush to complete the inside except for the electrical.

Pat is going to take Aunt Ginny to Memphis to the doctor tomorrow.

My brother Tommy stopped by about an hour ago.  He wanted to show us his latest purchase.  It is a 2011 Mustang convertible.  He took me and Pat for a short ride.  He had the top down and it was too cold for a very long trip.

THURSDAY APRIL 19, 2012
6:45 PM

I went to Tupelo today to meet with a surgeon.  After discussing my medical problem the surgeon did a procedure and ask me to return in two weeks.  If everything goes well during this two week period, he will complete the procedure then.  If not he will do the procedure later.

The surgeon has a BS from Mississippi State, a medical degree from that school up north (Ole Miss). and did his residency at the University of Arkansas Medical in Little Rock.  I wore a polo shirt with an Arkansas logo on the front.  We had a good discussion.  He told me that one of his friends runs the marathon in Wynne.   He knew where Wynne was located.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 18, 2012
8:00 AM

All of the new flooring has been installed.  The men finished the work on Monday afternoon.  Pat and I are in the process of moving all of the items back in their place.  This is almost as much trouble as moving.

I ordered the metal for my shop yesterday.  The company will deliver the metal on Friday.  They could have delivered it tomorrow, but I have to go to Tupelo for a doctor's appointment.

I went to the car club meeting last night.  It is good to go to these meeting and discuss activities the club does.  It is also good to meet, eat, and visit with the members of the cub.

It rained all day yesterday.  We needed the water and it was a good slow rain.

SATURDAY APRIL 14, 2012
5:20 PM

I did not get very far on placing the wood on the trusses to attach the metal.  Monday morning I got up on the building and placed a few boards,  I could not work on top of the building.

I called Pat's brother and he came over and placed the boards on the trusses.  I helped, but he did all of the work on the roof.  It took us two days.

Amy came to Iuka Tuesday night after work.  She came to help us move all of our stuff.  The new floor covering installers came Thursday and started placing the floor covering.  We move stuff out of one room and then move it back and start another room.  Amy was a big help.  She stayed till Thursday afternoon.  The floor covering guys worked Thursday and Friday.  They will finish on Monday.  They have to install in three bedrooms and the job will be finished.  It really looks good.

On Wednesday Amy, Pat and I went to a metal company in TN.  We picked out the color for my garage.  I plan to return next week and order the material, after we get the house straight after the floor covering guys finish on Monday.  Moving everything for the new floor covering is almost like moving,  there is just to packing, but everything has to be moved at least two times.

Amy was off because she is off during the week two days every two weeks.  It is her weekend.  It reminds me of hearing the police saying during the week that the next two days would be their Saturday and Sunday.

SUNDAY APRIL 8, 2016
8:10 PM

Amy and Matt came to Iuka yesterday afternoon and stayed till this afternoon.  It was good to have them visit for Easter.  We all had a good time visiting.

Pat and I went to church and sunday school this morning.  We had, as most churches do, had a huge crowd for the morning worship.

I got the trusses put up on my garage on Saturday morning.  Pat's cousins husband brought his crane our and set the trusses.  Mike and Steve worked on the ladders and nailed the trusses in the correct location.  I helped but they did most of the work.  We started a little after eight and were finished by noon.  Pat had lunch prepared and we all had a good lunch.  I am glad to get that part of the building complete.  I plan to attach the wood to the trusses to attach the metal roof.  I will be glad to get the roof installed, but it will take several days to complete this part of  the building. Once the roof is installeed, I plan to complete the outside walls and then move the stuff from the carport to the building.  Then we can have our carport to use.  (It is a double carport.)

THURSDAY APRIL 5, 2012
6:15 PM

I spent a long time in the doctors office today.  I went for my regular routine checkup.  The checkup went well.  I also have a problem with a cyst.  The doctor told me that because of where it is located, I needed to have a C T Scan and let a surgeon decide how to deal with the situation.  After my doctor visit I went to the local hospital for the scan.  They gave me a cup of liquid to drink and they told me to drink it and one hour later they would do the scan.  I drank the liquid and then took a short visit to Wal-Mart and then made a drive around Iuka.  I returned to the hospital and they did the scan.  They told me that my doctor would get the results in  a few days.  He had told me that when he got the results he would contact me with instructions.

I have made arrangements with a couple local guys to help me install my trusses tomorrow.  I hope that it all goes well.  If it does not I will have to go to plan B.

SATURDAY MARCH 31, 2012
1:45 PM

I took off yesterday, almost.

I made a trip to Corinth yesterday morning to check on some building material and pick up a few items we needed.  It rained all morning.

Yesterday afternoon I washed my old truck.  Then I took it for a drive.  I drove it for about an hour.  I crank it from time to time, but this is the first time I have driven it in several weeks.

I did plant a couple of plants for Pat.  We have planted several plants this spring.

Amy was off on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  She came home Wednesday evening and stayed until Thursday afternoon.  It was good to have her visit.  She seems to enjoy coming to Iuka and getting away from work and Memphis.

Pat and I went to Corinth this morning.  She is going to take a class beginning on Monday and she needed some supplies for the class.

Later this afternoon we are going to a birthday for Pat's brothers grandchild.  She and her family have just moved here from Fort Worth.

TUESDAY MARCH 27, 2012
8:20 PM

I went on the car cruse on Saturday.  We had a very good time.  We went to the Shiloh and there we saw the movie and then toured the battlefield in our cars.  We then went to Counce and had lunch.  Everybody seemed to have a very good time.  Pat did not get to go with me.  One of the members of her garden club died and the funeral was Saturday.  The members of the club were honorary pallbearers.

I have been working on my garage.  I have all of the walls framed and siding on about 1/4 of it.  It is ready to have the trusses installed.  I have to figure out how to get the trusses on top of the walls.  When I do some friends of mine are going to help me install them.  When the trusses are installed I will purchase the metal roof and install that.

The weather has been excellent here, and I have enjoyed working our in the yard and on my garage.

TUESDAY MARCH 20, 2012
8:30 PM

I have just returned from the car club meeting.  I joined the club last month.  We meet and eat at  a local cafe once a month.  We are going to have a cruse on Saturday.  We are going to a park in Tenn. and then have lunch together in Counce Tenn.

I have three walls framed for my new garage.  I have been working the last several days on the front porch of our home.  The porch had dropped about an inch or two.  That caused the brick on the wall to drop.  I hired a man to remove the brick and then the concrete contractor came and took our the old floor and the poured a new floor.  Pat and I decided not to replace the brick.  We decided to replace the brick with cedar wood.  I have now completed that work.  The porch looks very good.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

TUESDAY MARCH 13, 2012
10:30 PM

I started building the walls on my new garage today.  The lumber company delivered the lumber this morning and the trusses were also delivered this morning.  I got one wall framed and started on the second one today.  I also made a quick trip to Corinth.  I wanted to check on the sizes of  the garage doors that I can purchase and I also need to know the rough opening to frame for the doors.

The concrete contractor was here today.  They removed the old floor and prepared it to pour a new floor tomorrow.  The contractor told me a place I could purchase a few brick to complete the job.  The man who removed the brick did an excellent job. I was able to clean up about eighty five percent of the bricks.  The concrete contractor told me where I could purchase the brick I need to complete the job.  He also told me that he could get me in touch with a brick layer who would do this small job.

While I was in Corinth at the glass company I hired them to replace some of the window glass in some of our windows.  We have a few that have lost the gas that is between the two pains of glass.  This causes the glass to lose the insulating value and it also sweats.  We have parts of about four windows that will have to be repaired.

We are going to replace all of the floor covering in the house.  We are going to have tile installed in the family room/kitchen an bathrooms.  The bedrooms, living room and dining room will have a floating wood floor.  The floors have been ordered and should be installed in about three week.

These projects will complete most of the updates and repairs to the house.  There are some small projects we have to complete,  but they are much smaller and will not cost very much.

I will be working on my garage for the next several days.  I plan to frame the building and get the roof installed and the slow down and complete the building over the next few months.  I discussed with a contractor today the heating and cooling and the electrial today.  When the time comes I will  probable hire him to complete this part of the garage for me.

The weather is warming up and the grass is growing.  That means that I will be cutting grass on a regular basis.  I enjoy working in the yard, but my yard here is so much bigger that the yard I cut for almost 40 years in Wynne.

FRIDAY MARCH 9, 2012
4:00 PM

The floor covering company measured the house yesterday.  Pat and I went to the store today and picked out the covering we are going to have installed.  The material will be here in about a week.  The owner said that they do not schedule the installation till the product is in the store.  He said that it usually takes about two weeks after the product is in the store to do the installation.  We should have the new floors in about three weeks.

We had a big rain here late yesterday afternoon and last night.

Amy will probably come home for the week end.  She has something to do tonight and will come tomorrow.
She might sleep a big portion of the day.  She has been very busy since her last week end off.

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

WEDNESDAY MARCH 7, 2012
6:30 PM

Pat and I went to Memphis to the doctor today.  Pat had to get a shot for her hip.  She had one in the other hip about two weeks ago.  The shot worked and the doctor thinks these shots will solve her problem.  The first one has worked well.

We had lunch in Germantown with a lot of old people.  We ate at a cafeteria.  A larger of the customers were older people.  The food was good and they had an excellent selection.

After the doctor appointment we went to the funeral home and visited with Amy and her coworkers.  They have been very busy for the last several days, but we caught them at  a break between jobs.  Pat carried them some brownies that she baked this morning.

When we got home the man working on our front porch has been here and removed the remaining brick.  He has to remove the floor and then the concrete contractor will come an pour a new porch floor.

We are going to install new floor covering in the house.  We plan to have wood floors in all of the house except the bathrooms and the kitchen and family room.  The company will be here tomorrow to measure the house.  He called while we were in Memphis, so he said that he would come tomorrow for the measurements.

TUESDAY MARCH 6, 2012
5:45 PM

I have not written in several weeks.  Everything is fine, I have just not taken the time to write.

On cold days I just stayed it the house and enjoyed doing nothing.  On the nice days I have been working in the yard.  The biggest project has been smoothing out the dirt where I had a new field line put in last year.  We have had a lot of rain, so it took several weeks to complete the job.

I had to spend some time taking care of, with the help of my brothers, taking care of the business that must be done when a family member dies.  I think everything is complete.  We are waiting on a monument for my father.  The company forgot to put some information the monument.  They should complete the work this week and set the monument.  We have already paid for the monument, so we have closed mother's accounts and settled the estate.

The contractor has poured the slab for my new garage.  Because of the rain and the temperature they did it as do a good job with the slab.  I have ordered the trusses and plan to purchase the material to frame the building this week.   I plan to get the building framed and a roof on and the take my time completing the job.  I look forward to doing the work and then getting to use the garage.

I have hired a man to repair my front porch.  Part of the process is take the brick off of about 20 feet of the front house wall.  I have a man doing that when he has the time.  He has completed about one third of the removal of the brick.  He was careful taking off the brick, so I spent most of the day cleaning the brick.  I plan to reuse the brick when we remove the floor and replace it.

I talked with three of my good buddies from Wynne today.  It was good to visit with them on the phone.

Pat and I will go to Memphis tomorrow.  She has to get a shot from a doctor.  We will go by and see Amy, if she can take a short break.  It all depends on the work going on when we get to go to the funeral home.

She came to Iuka two weeks ago and spent the weekend.   She had a good time and so did Pat and I.

I still go to the coffee shop and keep up on all of the information about Iuka and Tishomingo county.

Pat and I are enjoying living in Iuka and not having to go to work everyday.  We have never regretted retiring and moving to Iuka, but we both miss Wynne and our many friends.

SUNDAY JANUARY 29, 2012
5:45 PM

I have been sick this week.  I have had a very bad cold.  I have been taking over the counter drugs and staying in the house.  I have spent most of the time in bed since Tuesday evening.  I feel much better today.  I did not go to church this morning, but I plan to go tonight.

Pat and I did join my Iuka family last night for supper at one of my brothers home.  We had a very good meal and enjoyed visiting with family.

FRIDAY JANUARY 20. 2011
3:15 PM

Mother went to be with the Lord today about 1:45 PM.  She was surrounded by her sons and sister when she passed away.

Thanks for all of your prayers during the last days of her life here on earth.   She went very easy no pain.
FRIDAY JANUARY 20, 2010
6:00 AM

Mother is not doing well.  In fact she is in the last stages of life.  Her body is shutting down.  The nurse has told us that it is a matter of a few days.  The nurses are keeping her comfortable.

Mother is ready to go be with the Lord.  She has told us several times over the past few months that she is ready to go.  One of the last things that she told the nurse, that could be understood, was that she was going to meet God.

Please keep mother and our family in your prayers as she and we go through this difficult time.

TUESDAY JANUARY 17, 2012
8:42 PM

It has been cold and raining the last several days in Iuka.  The forecast for the next several days is more of the same.

Amy made a surprise visit last Thursday night.  She was off last Thursday and Friday.  Thursday afternoon she and her boyfriend were ridding around and she mentioned the she would like to see her mother and daddy.  Before she realized what was going on they were on their way  to Iuka.  It was a surprise.  We had a very good visit before they had to return.

Pat and I went to the library for a meeting today and a concert with some old friends from Iuka.  The event was well attended and I met several people that I have not seen since returning to Iuka.  I also saw several that I have met since we moved back.

I talked to a couple from Iuka that I have probably not seen in well over forty years.  The lady had gone to a business school in Memphis after high school.  When she learned that we had lived in Wynne she told us that she had gone to business school with some women from Wynne.  She could remember the first name of one of the women, but could not remember her last name.  When she told me her first name I told her that I knew that woman. Her name is not a very common name.  Based on the age of the women I told her that it had to be the woman I knew in Wynne.   When I got home I called the lady in Wynne and she told me that she remembered the lady from Iuka and that there were four women from Wynne going to the school in Memphis at that time.   We had a good visit talking on the phone.  I then called my friend in Iuka  and told her the phone number of the lady in Wynne.  She said that she would give her a call.  When I was talking to the lady in Wynne, she told me that several times over the years she and the other ladies from Wynne had talked about my friend from Iuka.  I hope that they had a good visit on the phone.  I will check with my friend when I see her again.

Since I have moved back to Iuka I have met two men who had worked for the owner of the shoe factory in Wynne.  They had not worked in Wynne, but they knew that the company had a factory in Wynne.  Small world.

Mother in not doing well.  She has had  three bad days.  In fact the last two she has had an nurse in the room all of the time.   Mother's body is wearing out.

TUESDAY JANUARY 3, 2012
3:15 PM

I have stayed in the house all day today.  It is cold in Iuka today.  It is now 36 degrees and that is the high so far today.  I did go to the coffee shop this morning and caught up on the latest news.

Pat has been gone since early this morning.  She is in Memphis with my aunt.   She had a doctors appointment this morning.

Yesterday Pat's brothers, Mike and Steve came over.  Mike's wife and daughter and grandson also came.  Steve and his girlfriend came.  We had a lunch and visited for a while.  Tommy came over just before they left.  He stayed and we watched football games until about midnight.  I watched part of several games yesterday.  At one time there were four games going on at the same time.  All of the games were very good and no blowouts among the games.

I have to go to the doctor tomorrow.  Nothing is wrong, it is time for my yearly checkup and get a new prescription for my drugs for the next year.  I will have to skip my honey bun and coffee until they draw blood.  They will draw blood about 8:30 AM.  I can then have some coffee and my honey bun.  My appointment to see the doctor is not until 9:45 AM.  This will be my second time to see this doctor.  I was impressed with him the first time I had an appointment with him.
